Is it possible to have a career in game design without going to college?

If so, what should someone do if he wants to be a game designer and he doesn't like school? Is it possible to have a career in game design without going to college?I think you might have to go to college whether you like it or not, because you have to learn this thing that's called C+ (at least that's what I think its called) and you have to become certified in it. And if you don't go to college you have a lower chance of getting a job as a game designer. Is it possible to have a career in game design without going to college?Things like game design/programming/art etc are subjects that can be self-taught and studied but having a formal qualification in them isn't always necessary.

It really depends on how good you are and how well you present your abilities to the world

You need a solid portfolio, from concept, through production, to final work/finished product on each project you undertake. This can be documented online as not only a way to advertise yourself, but also receive constructive feedback.

I have several friends who are self-taught web designers, one still in university (though he is way ahead of the class in everything) and the other who never studied it formally. They have both earned money doing free-lance work.

However, having a degree is desirable by many employers because of all the key skills learned in the years spent as a student. Is it possible to have a career in game design without going to college?He/she would have to be really just awesome. Theys people going to school every year for a very few jobs. I am not trying to discourage, just saying.
